The luxury chair in the desolate field 2010.09

Charcoal on paper/ 39x54.3cm

Concept

This painting tries to depict that modern day consumer behaviors and values have changed. As my father said, when he was young, he would be extremely happy if he could eat an apple since fruits in his generation were not common and quite expensive. Even for my grandpa, when furniture such as chairs or tables were broken, they would try their best to repair it, so the chairs can be used for decades. But, nowadays, since resources are easily accessible, people do not cherish or value their things. As in the luxurious chair in this drawing, it is firm and fashionable and can be used for many years, however, modern people would discard it when they see something new.
